New Album released today, Richmond VA this weekend and more!

the_sounding_joy_300Dear Friends

Although it feels a little silly to talk about Christmas music in October, here I am sharing some holiday news with you. Our new album “The Sounding Joy: Christmas Songs in and out of the Ruth Crawford Seeger Songbook” was released today, October 15, on Smithsonian Folkways.

This album was a labor of love. Over the last four years, we worked sporadically in our home studio, collaborating with friends and neighbors and finding new ways to sing and play old Christmas songs. Really old Christmas songs! We are joined by Peggy Seeger, Natalie Merchant, Amy Helm, Gail Ann Dorsey, Dan Zanes, Chris Wood, Marco Benevento, Happy Traum, Aoife O’Donovan, John Sebastian, Jay Ungar and Molly Mason, Mike+Ruthy, Larry Campbell and Teresa Williams, Joan Osborne, Suzan-Lori Parks and more more more. I won’s say much more about it right now, maybe I will wait til it gets just a little bit colder outside! But for now, I wanted to celebrate it’s release date, and let you know that it is here, when and if you are ready to hear it.

Click here to visit the album page!

Also! We will be in Richmond VA this coming weekend! We have never been to nor played music in Richmond VA- this is exciting! Please join us and spread the word if you can . We will be joined by our friend Dan Zanes which should be so much fun.

Also this weekend is the Fall Family Fun Festival at the Ashokan Center in Olivebridge NY. We played this event last year and had such a beautiful day. We will be joined again by our dear friends Jay Ungar and Molly Mason. Join us and learn to make a broom, paint a pumpkin or make and drink apple cider with us!

just a quick note to let you know the recent and future happenings around here!

Our good news today is that our heirloom tomatoes are still growing (yum!) and….Turn Turn Turn received a Gold Award from the Parents Choice Foundation! Check out writer Lahri Bond’s very thoughtful words about the album.

“This sumptuous collection is family music at its very best.”

We will be in Chicago this weekend, playing 2 shows at the Old Town School of Folk Music, one of our all time favorite venues! We love playing in Chicago so much, words cannot convey our love for the audiences that come out there! A few tickets remain for each show, get them now before they are all gone. We will be playing new songs, old songs and your song requests, we already have several for the 11am show- 2pm people we need to hear from you- we can’t wait to sing with you! Click here for more!

And finally, my friend and band mate had quite a special opening slot last week as he played songs before the appearance of PRESIDENT OBAMA. Apparently the President really liked Dan’s three piece pink corduroy suit and asked to borrow it soon.

thanks to all of the very lovely people who came out for our shows at Mass Moca and in Portland Maine last weekend- some of the most fun I have had making music in my entire life! you were truly wonderful audiences and you brought out the best in us. thank you!
